Mikkel King

Our scholarship awardee is currently a rising senior pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business and Enterprise Management with a Minor in Philosophy at Wake Forest University, where he maintains a 3.72 GPA. An important milestone that he achieved this past year was his induction into Alpha Kappa Psi, the oldest and largest professional business fraternity. Stepping out of his comfort zone and joining this organization has allowed him to focus on developing professional etiquette, build new connections through networking skills, and leadership capabilities. This experience has been instrumental in refining his career goals and connecting him with a community of driven peers. Additionally, he is excited to share that he has secured a summer internship at Millennium in Miami this upcoming summer. He will be working in Middle Office and Operations, a role that will allow him to apply his interest in financial systems and operational efficiency.

Beyond academics, he remains dedicated to giving back to the community through his role as a Coach for an organization called Let Me Run. Since he has come to Wake Forest, he has played a role in mentoring elementary school boys by leading them through a curriculum that combines physical training with character-building lessons. Guiding them toward the completion of a 5K run while discussing topics like self-worth and teamwork has been incredibly fulfilling. This experience allows him to give back to the Winston-Salem community while developing his own skills in mentorship and leadership.

He wants to take the time and bring attention that he has only been able to pursue these high-level professional experiences and dedicate time to giving back to his community because of the stability and encouragement provided by the OYA Scholarship. He says our investment in his education has truly empowered him to excel both in the classroom and as a leader for the next generation.
